The pads of your pals feet are much tougher than our own — tough enough for them to run around on rough terrain without discomfort. There are, however, times when your furry friend could use a little extra protection.

Many owners like taking their dogs on walks to enjoy the warm summer weather, but they may forget one important detail: hot pavement will burn a dog's paws! It can be tempting to take your dog everywhere you go, but it can cause serious harm to your dog if you are not careful. 

So what can you do to help your pal?

Dogs boots can protect your pup's paws from the elements and provide extra traction.

In the winter, a nice set of booties will keep your dog’s feet dry and safe from corrosive substances like ice melt and rock salt. In the fall, boots will keep your pup’s feet clean on muddy walks. Plus, it never hurts to keep a set of all-purpose booties on hand.

Periodically take a look at your pals feet and look for signs of injury. Gently press on the pads for sensitivity. If you notice any blisters, burns, swelling, cracks, cuts, redness, seeds or burrs stuck between the pads, then a pair of dog boots can help correct the issue.

If your poor friend has an injury to the foot, or needs to have surgery on its feet for some reason, it will be important to cover the dog’s feet for an optimal recovery. Shoes will help keep the wound or surgical incision clean until it fully heals.

IMPORTANT: Boots or any other paw or foot covering should be kept on as short a period of time as possible. Dogs "perspire" through their mouths and their paws. Shoe Measuring Guide:

1. Stand your pet on a blank piece of paper and trace the outline of their front paw, including their toenails.

2. Measure the length and width of the outline.

3. Choose the shoe size that fits the entire paw including toenails but excluding the fur.

4. A snug fit is best. Pets won't be able to fit in any boots that are smaller than their own paws. Boots that are too large may slip off during rigorous activity.
